Sometimes, we meet people by chance who become our lifelong friends. That’s exactly what happened with Julia Hatherell and her cat, who was later renamed Liam.

A Determined Visitor: The Stray Cat’s Daily Routine

Living in an average Toronto neighborhood, Julia had the same normal Canadian life with her spouse—except for one difference: Liam, who, a few years back, was one of the many cats in Julia’s neighborhood. However, unlike other cats, Liam loved Julia; he would visit her house and wait by the door for her to come outside. He’d walk with her, lie in front of her, and demand belly rubs. Julia’s affection and Liam’s fondness created a bond that she hadn’t yet realized.

While Julia was still unsure about Liam’s parents, Liam knew exactly who he wanted to pet him. One day, Liam decided to speed up the adoption process. He went to Julia’s window, held onto it with his paws, and meowed to get her attention. Julia wasn’t sure what it meant.

Liam wasn’t one to give up, so he tried again the next day, hoping to win her over—and he succeeded. Julia Hatherell caved in, and it was the beginning of a lifelong bond.

Now that Julia had taken Liam in, her first step was to find his parents. She asked around and discovered that Liam was a stray cat who had chosen Julia to be his mom. That was when Liam got his name and officially became part of the Hatherell family.

Liam quickly adjusted to life indoors in Julia’s cozy home. To make his life even more fun, Julia brought in some foster kittens. Liam was delighted; he played with the kittens all day and comforted them in their new environment. Today, Liam has fostered dozens of cats and has become a fun-loving foster parent while Julia takes care of all of them in their cozy home. It’s fair to say you don’t adopt a pet; it chooses you.
